Passion!

Mike and I leave in the morning with 40 or so college students from our church for a conference in Atlanta called Passion. Please keep us in your prayers this week. It will be from Monday thru Thursday. You can visit the link I have listed on the right side of my blog if you're curious to know what this conference is all about.

In a nutshell ...... it's about a passion for Jesus.....God used this conference hugely in my life (back in 1998 and 99). It taught me more about what it means to walk closely with the Lord, to abide in him, to enjoy him, to be passionate for him and most importantly to share him!

It is a huge answer to prayer that Mike and I get to go together with our church. John and Peggy have so graciously agreed to keep Emma for the week. And believe me, Emma is so excited to stay with them! I'm sure there will be lots of pictures to share when we get back. So, for now.......

Yes, LORD, walking in the way of your laws, we wait for you; your
name and renown are the desire of our hearts. Isaiah 26:8

Pics by Emma

These are a few pictures that Emma has taken with our digital camera. Maybe a future photographer? At least I know what to get her for her 3rd birthday! Thankfully they make kid proof digital cameras.

Uh Oh!!

We saw this day coming. With as much stuff as we store in our attic (work things and other various items we've held on to through the years), we knew eventually we'd end up stepping through the ceiling! Now, of course this moment was not funny or amusing at all at the time. Mike being the handy man that he is will be fixing the ceiling with Mark today. I just thought you all would like to see some pics of our "hole in the ceiling" as Emma calls it.

Baby Jesus?......FOUND!!!!!

Well, the drama has come to an end! This morning, Emma and Mike surprised me by waking me up with baby Jesus in their hands! And you'll never guess where he was "hiding". In her play kitchen microwave with the donkey (not the one in this picture)! Now, I said I searched this house up and down.....and I could swear I looked in that microwave! Well, baby Jesus was found just in time. I'm putting the Christmas decorations away this weekend, sad to say.

Merry Christmas!

Even though I'm always tired after the whirlwind of the holiday, it's always sad to see Christmas come to an end. We hope you and your families had a wonderful and blessed Christmas. We love you all very much and you are always in our thoughts and prayers!

Emma's Visit with Santa!!!!

On Christmas night Emma got to see Santa! She was shy at first, she hasn't even wanted to see the mall Santa. But by the time her visit with Santa was over, she had warmed up a little. She did at least shake his hand!

Our "Santa" is really Emma's Great Uncle Tom. This is his second year to pose and he had 3800 kids sit on his lap!

The Old One

I know it's alot to ask, but this is such a heart warming story. If you have time, please read this. I did and it really touched me.

GIFT OF THE OLD ONE
By Eunice Day, Washington ME

The young couple had made their usual hurried, pre-Christmas visit to the little farm where dwelt their elderly parents with their small herd of goats. The farm had been named Lone Pine Farm because of the huge pine which topped the hill behind the farm, and through the years had become a talisman to the old man and his wife, and a landmark in the countryside.
The old folks no longer showed their goats, for the years had taken their toll, but they sold a little milk, and a few kids each year, and the goats were their reason for joy in the morning and contentment at day's end.
Crossly, as they prepared to leave, the young couple confronted the old folks. "Why do you not at least dispose of "The Old One". She is no longer of use to you. It's been years since you've had either kids or milk from her. You should cut corners and save where you can. Why do you keep her anyway?" The old man looked down as his worn boot scuffed at the barn floor and his arm stole defensively about the Old One's neck as he drew her to him and rubbed her gently behind the ears. He replied softly, "We keep her because of love. Only because of love."
Baffled and irritated, the young folks wished the old man and his wife a Merry Christmas and headed back toward the city as darkness stole through the valley.
So it was, that because of the leave-taking, no one noticed the insulation smouldering on the frayed wires in the old barn. None saw the first spark fall. None but the "Old One".
In a matter of minutes, the whole barn was ablaze and the hungry flames were licking at the loft full of hay. With a cry of horror and despair, the old man shouted to his wife to call for help as he raced to the barn to save their beloved goats. But the flames were roaring now, and the blazing heat drove him back. He sank sobbing to the ground, helpless before the fire's fury.
By the time the fire department arrived, only smoking, glowing ruins were left, and the old man and his wife. They thanked those who had come to their aid, and the old man turned to his wife, resting her white head upon his shoulders as he clumsily dried her tears with a frayed red bandana. Brokenly he whispered, "We have lost much, but God has spared our home on this eve of Christmas. Let us, therefore, climb the hill to the old pine where we have sought comfort in times of despair. We will look down upon our home and give thanks to God that it has been spared."
And so, he took her by the hand and helped her up the snowy hill as he brushed aside his own tears with the back of his hand. As they stepped over the little knoll at the crest of the hill, they looked up and gasped in amazement at the incredible beauty before them. Seemingly, every glorious, brilliant star in the heavens was caught up in the glittering, snow-frosted branches of their beloved pine, and it was aglow with heavenly candles. And poised on its top most bough, a crystal crescent moon glistened like spun glass. Never had a mere mortal created a Christmas tree such as this. Suddenly, the old man gave a cry of wonder and incredible joy as he pulled his wife forward. There, beneath the tree, was their Christmas gift.
Bedded down about the "Old One" close to the truck of the tree, was the entire herd, safe. At the first hint of smoke, she had pushed the door ajar with her muzzle and had led the goats through it. Slowly and with great dignity, never looking back, she had led them up the hill, stepping daintily through the snow. The kids were frightened and dashed about. The skittish yearlings looked back at the crackling, hungry flames, and tucked their tails under them as they licked their lips and hopped like rabbits. The milkers pressed uneasily against the "Old One" as she moved calmly up the hill and to safety beneath the pine. And now, she lay among them and gazed at the faces of those she loved. Her body was brittle with years, but the golden eyes were filled with devotion as she offered her gift-Because of love. Only Because of love.

Roll the Dough!

All that hard work sure paid off! We enjoyed lots of Christmas sugar cookies today! It's been so much fun baking with Emma. I love to cook and I'm glad she enjoys being with me in the kitchen so much!

And yes that is a dog bone cookie cutter. She loves to incorporate that one with our traditional Christmas tree, star, and snowman shapes! Actually she likes eating the bone shaped ones the best. It was one that I used for her puppy themed birthday party this past year.

One BIG Trip!

Congratulations to Christie on her Auburn Graduation! We went down on Thursday and spent the afternoon taking pictures at the stadium (which was awesome!) and at Sanford! Emma had so much fun. It was so special to us to see her running down the field all the while listening to her voice echo through the stadium! We had a great time visiting with family from Oregon and also with family who came down from Huntsville. We are so proud of Christie. With great persistence and determination she has put herself through college and now her future awaits her! We love you Christie!

Unforgettable Moment

Today I had to take Emma's pillowcase off and wash it. She takes that pillow everywhere , alot like I did when I was a kid except I sucked my thumb and held the corner of the pillow to my nose. I still remember the way that pillow smelled to this day. Well, Emma carries hers all over the house, it goes with her in the car sometimes (not all the time, much to her dismay). So, needless to say today was "wash day".
My back up pillowcase for her is one that I had when I was little, an old care bear one. She loves it too but not as much as her flower one (as she calls it). But she carried that one around for most of the day today until finally my load of laundry was done. When she saw me folding up the flower pillow case to put it away she said "Mommy I want that one on my pillow, that's my favorite". So, I changed them out and afterwards she gave me a big hug and said "Mom, your my best, I love you."
It's the little things in life that mean the most to me and really they are BIG things. When my daughter clumsily and somewhat roughly in her own little way says I love you and gives me a kiss and hug..... in my book those are huge things!

Making Christmas Memories

It's been a fun week around here! The weather has been cold and Christmas-y. I've been slow about getting my decorations up this year, I normally put them up right after Thanksgiving. But, we've been out of town and have had alot going on so, I haven't completely finished with my decorating. I was stressed about it at first, but I realized that that's not what Christmas is all about. I want to be able to enjoy this season, and if I'm so focused on trying to have everything "just so", then my focus is not on the right thing. I have really been trying to take things a day at a time, enjoying doing special little activities with Emma like putting up her own little tree, making ornaments with her, baking cookies, and going to Mr. Larrell's to get cedar for my Christmas decorations. Making the most of every moment, b/c Emma won't be little for long. These are some pictures from the week. The last one is of her at Larrell's house or Mr. Harold as Emma calls him (it's hard for her to say Larrell). He has a beautiful log cabin and it just feels like a Smokey Mountain Christmas when you walk in! I love going there! Enjoy the pics!

Playing with Baby Jesus!

The true meaning of Christmas? Jesus Christ

The spirit of Christmas is found in the hearts of little children, in the sounds of their giggles, in their excitement and anticipation of the night " you know who comes to visit"!

Well, we have a "new" friend around our house.......baby Jesus. I pulled down one of our Nativity scenes for Christmas and Emma was so excited to play with it! But since it is fragile, the only piece small enough and that probably will not break is the baby Jesus. So.....she has carried baby Jesus around for the past two days! Her little imagination never ceases to amaze me. He's ridden with her in the carseat, sang songs with her as she rides in back. He has ridden in one of her play cars she got from her Uncle Brad. He goes everywhere she goes!

That makes me think about something. My life. Do I "bring Jesus" with me everywhere I go? God calls us to have a child like faith. I think this might be what he means!

A Tree of My Own

Granted the ornaments have yet to be put on or even purchased but Emma loves her own special Christmas tree! When I was a kid I loved the different colored lights so I put those on for her. I'll post more pics after it's complete. I just wanted you all to see her "little" tree.

Family

It was so good to see all the family together yesterday! Robert and Amy flew in for the week, so we all got together to celebrate an "early Christmas" at Amanda and Johnathon's in B'ham. Chloe and Emma had tons of fun playing together. I can't believe how much they look alike!

Roasting Marshmallows

Emma enjoyed roasting her first marshmallows ever on Saturday night at Ryan and Krista's!

6 Years!

On Dec. 2nd, Mike and I celebrated our 6th anniversary! Marriage is an awesome thing and a blessing from the Lord, what can I say! God has taught us so much about what love truly is and what it means to become one. I feel so blessed to have had 6 wonderful years of marriage to Michael!

Getting Ready.....

for the big day was alot of fun for Mike and I. Since Mike hardly ever goes hunting, we had to go and buy him a few camo items to ensure that he did not scare off any potential "game"! He and Ryan had alot of fun getting out at 4:30 Saturday morning and freezing their buns off, unfortunately they only saw does, no bucks! Better luck next time huh?
Mike didn't mind though, it was more fun to him just hanging out and taking in all the beautiful scenery and fresh air!

A Season for Giving

Everyday it seems there are more and more things added to my "to do list" for the month of December. And as I write this post, I am almost overwhelmed by the busyness of this holiday season. But with a little one, I am continually reminded to not lose sight of what Christmas is truly about, the gift of God's grace....through Jesus. I'm so excited and thankful to be able to carry on special family traditions. Emma and I have already driven around to look at Christmas lights twice! That "childlike" faith and excitement is a breath of fresh air.

Here are a few pictures of Emma visiting one of the older ladies in our church, Ms. Barkley. She went with Mimi and Papa to deliver her a gift basket. She had so much fun playing with Ms. Barkley's frogs.
